On Monetizing SEO Blogs

Out of most major SEO blogs, some do monetize, some do not (and by “do not” I presume “monetize them indirectly by getting reputation from blogs”).

Question is - should you monetize a SEO blog?

Short answer: no.

Long answer: there is too many John Chow.com lookalikes that are writing ‘make money online’ or SEO blogs, showing with their example how they are making money online or doing SEO.

Problem is that in most cases, their result is not very impressive. For Darren Rowse of Problogger.net fame, his ‘make money online’ blog is just a side job. For John Chow johnchow.com also was a side job until it overshadowed his main venture, The Tech Zone.

This blog is just a side job for me (not that I don’t want it to be hugely successful, overshadowing rest of my projects; but for now, it just isn’t).

And there is nothing worse than lonely AdSense box hanging from sidebar somewhere. Either you monetize some site, or you don’t. Period.

Just don’t monetize your SEO blogs. You’re make far more providing services for visitors coming to them, and you will just look unprofessional by giving a half-hearted attempt to raise any money (if you will be able to get Shoemoney-sized checks it’s ok, but not until then).
