They Have Too Much Trust

Wikipedia. Answers. Ebay. Amazon. About.com. Guys, the have too much trust.

Matt Cutts admitted to using handjobs in Google at the SMX. Now, nothing can persuade me that those sites gained their insane trust algorithmically. I mean, who trusts About.com?

This madness must end now. Searchers want to get valuable information, not countless Ebay auctions.

Down the trust! Down the Google!

(Hm, perhaps it was too epic).

I’m 100% in agreement with you. About.com is about as big of drivel as Wikipedia or YouTube. Hell, if people want to go search About, Wikipedia or YouTube, they have comprehensive search on the site, no need for G! to pimp those tertiary results into their search results.

I have to agree about ABOUT.COM. What a useless site of half answers and buckets of ads. Wikipedia used to be okay until they decided to not link out and re-write other site owner’s content.

I like the way you phrased it..

Seriously though, I was suspecting this sort of thing for quite a while now. I mean, wikipedia ranks #1 for some keywords that it really shouldn’t and the space is taken away from sites that really deserve that spot (so much for “Don’t be evil”, eh?). It just defied logic that it would rank so purely through the algorithm… at least till now.

Page Rank is too easily manipulated so Google have to revert to manual hand editing of PR for particular sites. They need a human filter to make sure their algorithm doesn’t get abused too much.
