Ok, ok, ok.

It seems that I’ve been asked about this hundreds of times already — what’s going on with your startup?

Well, the idea was of RSS recommendation service — you provide feeds you read or credentials to your online feed reader, and our system provides you with feeds you may find enjoyable based on your current preferences.

We started developing it and in a week or so Google Reader rolled out a RSS recommendation system based on pretty much the same algo we had in mind, only based on a much, much larger dataset.

Thus, the site was scrapped, I was dissapointed and decided not to jump at Web 2.0 bandwagon for a time. That’s the fate of the project I was concentrated on for some time.

The idea was nice, but unfortunately the big players eat up small ones by creating the same type of service. But one positive thing came out of it, that your idea was excellent enough, that Google decided to develop it for Google Reader.

i think Google basically ‘owns’ a lot of the ‘new’ ideas that new startup come up with. It is a fact that they have more funds to do more .

yea most startups tank… but if u havent invested too much then u are probably doing better than most. and once ur startup takes off… the financial rewards can be endless :O

I think you shouldn’t give up on your idea. Just because Google has more resources to draw upon and bigger data repositories doesn’t mean that they would do a better job of it.

We need competition, even if just for the sake of free market or better service!

I think you should rethink your decision.

I agree, you shouldn’t give up on your idea, but rather rethink of the strategy, and perhaps try to create a better way. If not, then go on and find a new and better idea and come back even stronger

Don’t be disappointed about it too much. You’ll come up with some better ideas soon enough. I worked with a few startups and have to say that not a lot of them stay in business that long if they don’t have the funds to back them up until their product/service takes off.

This is a great idea for a startup! It would be handy to have feeds recommended to your based on what you already like so you do not have to spend time looking for them.
